Infusions and a little rust...

Hi everyone, following on from my last post I've made a few cards using a mixture of Seth Apter and Lin Brown stamps. The first is all Seth's, I really liked the tag and star elements with script on them so I also created a little rust project and card following his monoprint technique that I was lucky enough to catch him demoing on periscope.

(I'm entering this card into the current  PaperArtsy challenge which is all about Infusions and Paint)

This is another print from a stencil, I've used Sleight Blue and Olive Tree on this one.

I used the edge of the star to make white lines with a sharpie.

The circle is the original piece of card I stencilled paint and sprinkled infusions through and the star is a piece of card swiped with infusions and paint. Using the same colours but in a different way helps the images stand out from the background.

Next I've used In the Navy, Green Man and yes Sleight Blue for a quick card.

I gessoed through a number stencil to create a resist before using infusions and then gently sanded back.

I added some crackle glaze to the numbers to help the tag stand out more, there is also a hint of treasure gold.

A piece of rusty fabric stamped with the hinge from a Lin Brown set, is tucked underneath, and I added in a rusted metal piece, black cotton and some robo die cuts.

It's great that you get the odd pop of pink or violet in places.

Next having seen this demoed I picked a piece of left over book board I had and was just going to have a play but couldn't really believe how easy and effective this was. You monoprint with paint from a piece of card.

Not sure if I pressed too hard or was using a very cheap piece of card to monoprint from at first..I changed to watercolour paper after the first disintegrated...but little blobs of paint appeared which I'm not sure were meant to...but I was happy.

This is the easiest rust I've ever made.

I added some home rusted paper clips...

...and a washer.

Next I had an idea for creating some rust in the centre of a card...Seth style, CAS and one layer??

I've used a mixed media paper containing cotton which gives a lovely ragged edge.

Some stitching and a little metallic finish it off.

Violet, you're turning violet!

...or is it violetta? We're on a purply, pink theme today and I couldn't resist a favourite quote from Charlie and the Chocolate factory. I've been lucky enough to get some of the new infusion colours and I love Violetta and Sleight Blue together....and I also like Sleight Blue with a little bit of Green Man....and Sleight Blue with Olive Tree....I think you get the picture. Thought I'd share a few of cards I've made in my effort to be more organised this year.

First up I've used Tracy Scott stamps, under stamping in violet (making terms up now but I mean I've stamped under and out from the cut out images).

Pretty sure this is violet but it may have a touch of magenta in this sample too.

A little stamping with infusions first...more about that in a post in a few weeks.

I used sparkling snow embossing powder to add  a bit of pop and I do like how the walnut stain contrasts with the other colours.

I used frosting glaze underneath and added some gold alcohol ink, before using Lin Brown stamps.

Before my last card I thought I'd share an experiment or how I turned a mess into something I rather like.

I stencilled some gold and pearl paint through a stencil and sprinkled on Violetta and Sleight Blue. I'll certainly use it but my favourite part was turning the stencil over to print from it.

I wanted to press it down and thought I'd use a baby wipe to just wipe over the stencil....What a cool effect, infusions are always unpredictable and I love that you can get such joyful surprises.

A few more samples on different paper, the ones on the right are the alcohol technique on yupo.

Lastly a little Lynne Perella. I was lucky enough to get a crafty gift voucher at Christmas and this is one of the new stamp sets I bought.

I love the spiders web on her forehead!

No Place Like Home...

Hi everyone, thought I'd share a card a made a few weeks ago for a dear friend that is very similar to the card in the previous post. This time as the light improved I was able to do step outs which I thought might be useful. It's a technique and style I keep returning to....and is really easy.

As you can see I'm still in the blue phase here!

So to start, some Prima and Tim Holtz paper from my stash, distressed at the edges.

Gesso scraped through a stencil and yes it will seep under and adds to the effect. Wonky stitching is easier at this stage.

A quick wash of paint wiped back.

Stamping and crackle paste through another stencil. Stamped and painted main image (a fave Paperartsy stamp plate). Some gold and white pen highlights.

Extra flowers stamped.

Shabby silver and white frantage.

Detail...love layering up, it always adds depth, paint splashes...more stamping.

Texture,Crackle and Paint! at Stamps & Stencils

Hi everyone, time for our February challenge over at Stamps and Stencils and Rachel is our lovely challenge theme setter this month; here's what she has to say about it.

This month I would love to see what you come up with using texture, crackle and paint! Anything goes using stamps and/or stencils - make it mixed media please. 

Great challenge! Apologies before I start as I have no step outs, the light was very poor when I was making it and so it's just the finished project with closeups and a little explanation along the way...

I started with some Prima paper I've had in my stash for a while and spread gesso through a harlequin stencil (one of my favourites), next some Lake Wanaka and Antartic paint was washed over the area before adding book text and a further layer of crackle embossing paste through the same stencil...think that's ticked all the boxes at an early stage.

Splashes and splatters of Space Cadet and Lake Wanaka paint and then some aged silver embossing powder powder was melted over the area.

Stamping in black archival and splashes of white and black ink completed the base. Next buttons dry brushed with white paint before tickling with silver treasure gold and silver micro beads were added.

Finally the butterflies, the small ones were trimmed from the paper but the larger one is a PaperArtsy stamped and embossed image and the mixed media card is finished in shades of blue...ooh and I added some stitched detail around the edge.
